A brand new Movie-themed hotel in Jeonju officially opened its doors on October 14, 2014.
The 10-story movie-themed hotel can accommodate up to 150 guests with its 71 single and double rooms. The hotel is located at Movie Street, the venue of the annual Jeonju International Film Festival and the inspiration for the hotel’s theme.

Autumn is a great season to travel around Korea and take in the spectacular fall foliage scenes as leaves turn red and yellow across the peninsula. Fall foliage usually begins around late September at Seoraksan National Park (NaeSeorak) and reaches its peak around mid to late October. Among all the mountains in Korea known for their beautiful autumnal tints, like Jirisan National Park (Sancheong) and Naejangsan National Park, Seoraksan Mountain in Gangwon-do is considered the top fall foliage destination. Baegaksan (mountain) is Seoul Scenic Site No. 67 and makes for a lovely hike above the city. The trail starts at Changumun Gate and ends up 4.7km later at Hyewhamun Gate. The time needed to complete the course is usually 3 hours or less. This mountain was only re-opened to the public in 2007 having been closed for 40 years due to a North Korean Special Foreces infiltration of the the area in 1968.

Gwangju, a city of arts and culture
A KTX train ride from Yongsan Station in Seoul to Gwangju takes only about three hours. The Seoul Metropolitan Government is going to put on the Seoul Kimchi Making and Sharing Festival starting on November 14 and running through to the 16th. This event will take place in front of City Hall at Seoul Plaza, Gwanghwamun Square, and a few other spots around the city. The making of kimchi is known as Kimjang and is actually a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage piece as it is a unique part of Korean food culture. For almost 800 years it has been a part of daily meals. From home cooked meals to feasts for kings, this dish was always served. You too can take part in the event.

This is a reminder that Seoul Fashion Week ends tomorrow at the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP). This show happens twice a year in March and October. The one currently underway here is the largest one ever seen on Asian soil.

The 2014 Handmade Goods Exposition is being held from October 28th-30th from 12-8PM each day at Cheonggyecheon Plaza behind Seoul City Hall. The goal of this exposition is to spread the idea of handmade products from the local community ad spread the Do It Yourself concept for everyday life. More than 100 different products will be on hand.

The 7th annual Seoul Book Festival will be held at Seoul Plaza from November 8th-9th next month. Books from over 120 Seoul libraries and more than 100 publishers and bookstores will be there as well. Young artists from Seoul and Beijing are now meeting here until the 28th of the month for a great exchange of ideas. It is also the 20 anniversary of the sister cities' agreement for the "Seoul-Beijing Arts Project". The city believes that new ideas from our community are positive for the development of our economy. It was held at the Ilsan Kintex (Ilsan is part of the greater Seoul Metropolitan Area accessible by bus or subway)
Different views from the beautiful Deoksugung Palace. This is one of 5 royal palaces in the city. It is set apart from the rest because it is just across the street from Seoul City Hall and it is not as large as the others but very well kept. It has a mixture of modern and ancient architecture. This place was first the property of Wolsandaegun (1454~1488), the older brother of King Seongjong (1469~1494) of the Joseon Dynasty. It later transformed into a palace when Gwanghaegun (1575~1641) become King and named it Gyeongungung in 1611. Later on it once again became known as Deoksugung Palace. Make sure you check out the ceremony here which takes place with the traditional clothing and styles of old.
Here you can get a feel of what the palace is like inside. It has a mixture of modern buildings mixed in with the older ones. It is a great place to take a break from it all.
